Secret Santa ideas that survive January
Good Secret Santa ideas fit the budget and show you noticed something about the person: a mug or a small print made from a photo of their hobby does both. Secret Santa ideas usually fail on the same two constraints: a fixed budget, and a colleague you know socially but not well. Almost everything bought under those conditions is funny for an afternoon and in a drawer by February.

A good office gift starts with something you know about the recipient. Ask the organizer for the dollar limit, then count shipping as part of the budget. Personalized gifts are made to order, so check the delivery estimate before committing to an exchange date.
For someone who draws or paints
Ask for a file they're happy to reproduce. A mug puts their work on their desk; a print gives it a place on the wall. Direct printing keeps their artwork unchanged. Christmas gifts for an artist goes through formats, sizes and file checks in more detail.
For a miniature painter
A clear photograph of their finished figure can become a print. If they'd enjoy a new setting, the optional scene studio offers a different route, but they should approve the result before it is printed. Read our miniature painter gift guide.
Secret Santa ideas for a gamer, a painter or a D&D fan
Three of the lower-priced formats, lowest first:
- For a gamer: an 11 oz mug with the character they play or a screenshot they kept.
- For a D&D fan: a white T-shirt with their character on the front, S to 2XL.
- For a painter: an A4 art print of a figure they finished.
Brush & Paint is not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast; the print carries their own character, not licensed art. For the rest of the season, our guide to DnD Christmas gifts starts from the same picture.
Keep the full cost in view
A digital download has no postage. For a physical product, add the delivery quote to the product price and compare that total with the agreed limit. A larger or expedited order can exceed a small exchange budget.
Make permission part of the gift
Having a photo of someone’s work doesn't give you permission to reproduce it. Ask them for the original file, or choose the product together and keep the occasion a surprise.
Check current US products, sizes and USD prices. Shipping is added at checkout for your address. A-series dimensions on these reference pages are not a promise that every size is available to order.
Questions and answers
How late is too late to order?
Everything is made after you order it, so a draw organized the week before is already tight. Order with time in hand, or choose a desk-sized item, not a wall print.
What if I barely know the person?
Give something about their interest, not about them. You almost certainly know one hobby from sitting near them, and that's enough to be specific without overstepping.
